Project Selection-Magazine
I have always been surrounded by media, ever since I can remember. As my dad works for the Herald Tribune, the local newspaper in Sarasota, Florida; I can always remember watching him doing his work when I visited him at work. The aspect of media that most likely has interested me is photography. One thing I've learned from watching my dad is that the best way for a journalist to receive information, access, or anything they need for the story is through being polite. For example, a few months ago before hurricane Irma hit, I went with him out around town the day the storm was going to hit because he had to photograph some pictures for the paper. We went to Riverview High School to take pictures of the shelter. When asking permission to enter the shelter, he had to be polite and respectful to the principal of the school, law enforcement, and volunteers in order to take pictures. With photography being my area of interest in media, I feel I could apply this to the magazine very well. While I've seen my dad select photos for the newspaper, he stressed that variety is important and that you don't want two pictures of the same thing. He explained that pictures should be different but also fit well together. The project might challenge me through the process of finding the right material and the right pictures to really emphasize the story.
