Magazine Cover Research

After narrowing my decision down to the magazine project, I thought what I should do for magazine theme. I thought about things that I enjoy, and since there are no judgements on this blog (and not that many viewers) The thing that I enjoy most is food. I have looked over several magazine covers and have seen what I like and what I don't like. When you think of BBQ, you think of a small town joint that has a smoky and rustic feel. When you look at the magazine, you want the reader to be able to smell the bbq and you want them to get hungry. These following magazines look to me like they encompass that visual that is necessary for a BBQ magazine. These are my favorites from my research. To me, the top right magazine title shows the rough and rustic style that completes the realistic BBQ experience. The font with the neon sign right in the middle grabs the readers attention right away, which is want you want as the consumer walks down the magazine isle of you local super market.

The following magazines are organized well, but do not give me that feeling of the theme for BBQ. I don't see these being the rustic theme that is great for the viewer.
