Magazine Research #2

I have continued the search for other magazine layouts to shape my magazine. With research it is important to analyze the following components that make up the perfect magazine; Title page, table of contents, how the magazine organizes their articles within the magazine, and advertising

pages. All of these make up the perfect magazine, if it is organized, easy to read, and enticing to the reader. I selected a magazine titled Taste of home. In order to form my own magazine, it is important to look at others in order to see what hasn't been done and what has been done. 

Title Page 

It is easy to see how this cover page can attract readers with that delicious looking blueberry pie right in the center of the cover! The yellow-golden font presents a bright and easy to see lettering which is essential to present to the viewers. The sub-title below in the blue font offers another easy to read text for readers, that also goes with the theme of blueberries. Overall this tile page gives the reader a hungry stomach and a good feeling because there is nothing in the world like home cooking!

Table of Contents

The table of contents is especially important for both magazine writers and readers. It is important to readers, because it allows them to know what is going to be within the magazine they bought at the grocery store or have subscribed to. It is important to the writer, because as they start writing the issue, they may often establish a table of contents first before actually writing the articles first. This way the table of contents serves as a broad plan for what they will include in their magazine. This magazine's table of contents shows a complete list of the articles and recipes with page numbers and pictures of dishes that are discussed within the issue. 

     

Articles

Articles obviously make up magazines completely and are really "the meat of the sandwich" when it comes to content. They are essential to the magazine and could arguably be the most important part of any magazine. There should be the perfect balance of photos and text and easy for the buyer to read. This magazine has a style of 1-2 columns with just a few pictures and an easy font for the reader. This style is very organized and is easy enough to digest. 

Advertisements

Advertisements are the big way to gain revenue besides the sale of the magazine and they are important to the advertiser because they gain potential revenue from readers that see their ad. It is important to display the advertisement in a organized and clear way so that readers could find it. 

This magazine offers its own advertisements for its own magazine and displays a cardboard piece of paper, different from the magazine asking for subscriptions.
